More than 12 hours of sleep and 2 glasses of warm honey lemon later, I’m still feeling pretty feeble in bed. We took a long drive up to the highlands of La Salvetat yesterday morning and the winding road and rain and snow got the best of me.
I was sicked twice and hadn’t had anything since lunch yesterday. But thank goodness we had lots of my favourite palm-size macaron from Flipo in take-away box. So I shall pray to have my appetite back as soon as possible before they turn bad.
And since I won’t be making out of the house today, I thought I’d plough through the edited photos in my laptop (rather than the gazillion unedited ones in HDD) and blog about some bits and bobs of Béziers. So let’s see how random this can get.
This quaint little French town has a lot more to offer than I expected. Admittedly, among all the Christmas festivities, having fresh mandarin from the garden is what I enjoy most whilst being in Béziers. I don’t get to pluck something so organic and pulpy off a tree everyday, so please spare me the eye-rolling or weird glances.
It’s a whole new experience.
Now here’s a discovery. I found this Chocolate Caramel Mentos on the shelf of Monoprix few days ago and knew I had to give it a try. I’ve never seen this sold anywhere in Malaysia, London or any country I’ve been. It retained the classic Mentos chewiness but added chocolate filling to the core of the gum.
All that oozing chocolate and novelty aside, my greatest delight was that it tasted exactly like 大白兔奶糖 (Milk Candy), which I loved as a kid and would still go hogging from Chinatown every time I feel homesick.
On the 24th itself, there were kids roaming around town on donkeys in costumes. Even the saddles were made red with fur trimming like a Santa suit! I was certainly trying my best to curb my desire to get on one of them.
Apart from madeleine, I also learned to make chouchous (glazed almond). It is those “I can’t stop eating”, very addictive kind of snack. Pop in one and the entire box is gone. During our grad to Croatia, the girls and I were binging on these nuts. Sugar, water, almond(hazelnut, peanut, any nut of your choice) and 30 minutes later…. voilà!
Thus far, this post is looking pretty haphazard. So I might as well follow the trail and finish with some more random photos I snapped while we were running errands around town.
Will be back with something really breath-taking… and more organised. Now let me go get some food.
With love x
